Day 6 – Achieving goals: don’t start the new season in survival mode
Do you remember coming back from vacation last year? You swore things would be different. Less overload. More meaning. Better balance.
And yet, by the first week: endless meetings, unexpected issues, projects moving faster than you can keep up. Result? You’re moving — but without a clear course. In reaction mode. In rush mode.
This isn’t a question of willpower. It’s a question of method. And that method begins with a key skill: PSC 6 – The ability to achieve goals.
This isn’t a call to perform. It’s an invitation to take the helm.
Reaching your goals isn’t just about “ticking boxes.” It’s about learning to project yourself, plan, and adjust — without burning out.
Imagine a sailboat with no rudder. You might have the best sails and crew, but without direction, you drift. Every gust of wind turns into chaos.
Goals are your map and compass. They help you:
- Know where you’re heading
- Stay the course despite the storms
- Adjust your trajectory without losing confidence
- Feel real satisfaction, even if you haven’t reached everything yet
Why it’s vital for leaders
You can be ultra-competent, motivated, available… but if you’re stuck chasing unclear, unrealistic, or meaningless goals, you’ll burn out.
👉 PSC 6 helps you:
- Set clear, realistic, adjustable goals
- Channel your energy in the right direction
- Manage stress through structure and milestones
- Strengthen confidence, even when things don’t go as planned
Want to break free from reaction mode? Start with an SSSTOPPPP.
You don’t need a three-day retreat in a cabin. But if you never stop, you can’t clarify or choose.
Here’s my favorite exercise: SSSTOPPPP, the leader’s mindful pause. You’ve heard me mention it — here’s the PSC 6 version:
- S – Stand Up: Get up physically.
- S – Shake your body: Stretch, move, let your body release tension and emotion.
- S – Sit down: Sit calmly, grounded.
- T – Take a breath: Take five full breaths.
- O – Observe: Notice your surroundings and thoughts (PSC 4).
- P – Plan: How do you want to feel at this new start?
- P – Prepare: What needs to happen between now and then for you to get there?
- P – Proceed: Take action to create the conditions you want. Remember, success is made of a) mindset, b) physical condition, c) skills and knowledge.
- P – Pulse: Regularly check in on your state and progress — with as much compassion as ambition.
You’ve just turned an autopilot moment into a strategic one.
🎯 Micro-action of the day: GROW Model + Visualization
Now that you’ve slowed down, set your course with the GROW model:
- G – Goal: What’s your top priority goal for this season?
- R – Reality: Where are you today? (You can do a quick SWOT too.)
- O – Options: List your options and evaluate them — including doing nothing or letting go. Which three seem best?
- W – Will: What small action can you take as soon as you return (important but not urgent)?
💡 Close your eyes for 30 seconds. Visualize yourself in three months, goal achieved. Breathe with that image.
Now, move forward with that direction in mind. Listen to the audio and proceed.
Ready for tomorrow? We’ll talk about PSC 7 – Making responsible choices, or how to stop saying yes to everything… and start saying yes to yourself.
