It’s not about surviving the storm. It’s about coming out of it transformed.
Day 14 – PSC 14: Facing Adversity
You know those days, when you say “enough is enough.” When everything you’d planned falls apart. A bad piece of news, a difficult person, pressure beyond your limits. And suddenly, you find yourself facing adversity.
That’s where PSC 14 – The ability to face adversity – comes in.
Not pretending. Not fleeing. Not exploding. But recognizing the storm, taking a deep breath, and choosing who you want to be in that moment.
This skill doesn’t just fall from the sky
It’s built. Like a muscle. It rests on your psychological capital, what I call the HEROIC model: Hope, Efficacy, Resilience, Optimism, Impact, Courage.
It helps you move from automatic reaction to conscious action, from impulsive response to aligned decision.
And it starts long before the storm hits.
“It’s not what happens to you that matters, but what you do with it.”
Not quite. What happens to you
does matter. But what makes the real difference is
how you respond.
A leader who can’t face adversity without panicking, fleeing, or attacking…
…puts collective performance at risk. But a leader who learns to navigate storms becomes a beacon for others.
That’s what my book series Storm Driven Growth is about, because we don’t grow despite storms; we grow through them.
The first volume (coming soon in French) will help you identify your own relationship with adversity and turn life’s disruptions into opportunities for deep growth.
🎯 Micro-action of the day
Think of a past adversity (recent or significant).
Write down what you felt, what you did, and what you’d do differently now with hindsight.
Then, create a reminder phrase for next time. For example:
“I breathe, I hold steady, I choose who I want to be.”
Keep it near your workspace. It won’t stop the storm, but it will help you stay on course.
Tomorrow, we’ll begin a new family of social skills with PSC 15, Empathic Listening.
See you tomorrow for the next step of the journey,
Krumma
