Day 7 – Choosing consciously isn't choosing lightly

You're facing an important decision. You weigh the "pros" and the "cons". You listen to expectations. You anticipate the impacts. But… have you taken the time to ask yourself what truly makes sense for you?

In the storm of demands, the ability to make responsible choices is far more than a decision-making tool. It's an anchor. A compass. An act of clear-sightedness.

PSC 7, a choice you can train Making responsible choices is PSC 7 of the psychosocial competencies. The one that consists in clearly evaluating the options open to you, anticipating the consequences, weighing the ethics, the safety, the feasibility and the meaning, without disowning what matters to you.

It isn't a decision that "pleases everyone". It isn't a decision that "protects you in the short term". It's a decision that's sound, conscious, aligned and owned.

What this PSC draws on in a leader To choose responsibly, you need to:
• know yourself (PSC 1), to know what truly drives you
• think critically (PSC 2), to identify biases and automatic patterns
• evaluate with clarity (PSC 3, PSC 4)
• manage your impulses (PSC 5), so you don't decide under the sway of emotion
• keep your heading (PSC 6), to make choices consistent with your goals

Each decision then becomes an exercise in enlightened leadership. And each repeated misalignment… a risk of burnout or disengagement, for you as much as for your team.

🎯 Today's micro-action: 5 questions for deciding differently Before your next important decision, ask yourself these 5 questions:

  1. What is my deep goal here? (and not just the external expectation)
  2. What options are open to me?
  3. What is the potential impact of each option… on me, on others, on the organisation?
  4. Which of these options is most aligned with my values and my responsibilities?
  5. Is this a decision I could explain honestly, tomorrow or a year from now?

Tomorrow: PSC 8, creative problem-solving. Or how to think differently… without running from the problem.
See you tomorrow,

Krumma
