Day 7 – Choosing consciously isn’t choosing lightly

You’re facing an important decision. You’re weighing the pros and cons. You’re listening to others’ expectations. You’re anticipating the impacts. But… have you taken the time to ask yourself what truly matters to you?

In the storm of demands, the ability to make responsible choices is much more than a decision-making tool. It’s an anchor. A compass. An act of clarity.

PSC 7 – The skill of responsible choice

Making responsible choices is PSC 7 among psychosocial skills. It’s about evaluating options lucidly, anticipating consequences, and weighing ethics, safety, feasibility, and meaning — without denying what’s important to you.

It’s not about making a decision that “pleases everyone” or one that “protects you short-term.” It’s a fair, conscious, aligned, and deliberate choice.

What this PSC mobilizes in a leader

To make responsible choices, you need to:

  • Know yourself (PSC 1), to understand what truly drives you

  • Think critically (PSC 2), to spot biases and automatic reactions

  • Evaluate with clarity (PSC 3, PSC 4)

  • Manage impulses (PSC 5), to avoid deciding under emotional pressure

  • Stay on course (PSC 6), to make coherent choices aligned with your goals

Each decision then becomes an exercise in enlightened leadership. And each repeated misalignment… a risk of burnout or disengagement — for you and your team.

🎯 Micro-action of the day: 5 questions to decide differently
Before your next important decision, ask yourself these five questions:

  1. What is my real underlying goal? (not just external expectations)

  2. What options are available to me?

  3. What is the potential impact of each option — on myself, others, and the organization?

  4. Which of these options best aligns with my values and responsibilities?

  5. Is this a decision I could explain honestly, tomorrow or a year from now?

See you tomorrow for PSC 8 – Creative problem-solving. Or how to think differently… without avoiding the problem.

See you then,
Krumma
